Can you please help me? I am looking for advice on a head gasket replacement for a1993 Honda Accord EX Automatic Transmission - F22A6 engine. I bought the car for $500 bucks from a guy who said it had a bad head gasket, but got it to run for me and I drove it home 2 miles down the road. The valve cover was leaking and throwing white smoke, but no milky oil - I wouldn't say it's brown either. I noted there was no coolant in the radiator, hoses or cylinder jackets. It has new belts, and it looks like the oil pan gasket was replaced recently.
There was also a large leak underneath the distributor which I suspect is coming from the heater hose / seals. When I removed head, I found the coolant jackets bone dry, but the cylinder in alright shape. I took the head to the machine shop and the tech said he could tell it overheated, but says the block looks to be working okay. There was also no metal when I drained the oil. (Pictures attached)
Anyways here are my questions:
Based on the info above, what could be the causing the overheating?
How should I approach the head gasket replacement if I believe the engine overheated?
Where did all of the coolant go? No coolant in the radiator, hoses, or jackets?
Should I just replaced the thermostat, radiator, hoses, water pump all at once?
What else should I be doing or replacing while the head is off?
General advice for the head gasket replacement and firing it up?
You should have posted this in a different section. I would think something leaked and with no coolant the head gasket blew and the remaining coolant came out as white smoke through the exhaust. See if the cylinders are still in good shape. Check that the block is still flat and put it back together than find the leak.
