Default E-brake won’t hold on 2007 SE

Ok guys this is my first post on here; I need help. I have a 2007 SE sedan, 2.4L auto. Last year, my car failed inspection because the ebrake (or parking brake, I guess?) didn’t hold. It needs to hold the car stationary when the car is in Drive with no gas applied (idle). My brother is mechanically inclined (I am not). We took the center armrest/console out and tightened the ebrake cable(s) with that little nut/bolt. It seemed to work ok, and I wound up passing.

Now, it’s loose again and I know it won’t pass again. We did the same thing, but this time it didn’t work. We tightened the screw to the point where even with the ebrake disengaged, the wheels still dragged. As soon as we loosened it just enough so the wheels don’t drag, it’s not even close to being tight enough to hold the car in drive. I don’t think the cable is stretched; pulling the handbrake is very difficult and it feels incredibly tight, but it just won’t hold. My brother is stumped (and needless to say, so am I). Does anyone have any thoughts?

Did you pull the ebrake 5 clicks and then tighten? Once tightened you should be good

Check the thickness of the rear brake shoes/pads. I only say that, as I'm not sure if your rear brakes are drum based, or disc based. My son's 08 Civic Si, has a mechanical lever that squeezes the disc pads to the rotor for parking brake operation. His wife's 08 Pilot, uses drum brake shoes inside the rotor for parking brake operation. When you adjusted the cable, you might have been taking up some of the wear on the pad material. Now that same pad material might be even thinner than last year, giving you too much slack to over come.

The SE are disc based and use the read pads for e-brake. Make sure your rear pads and rotors are good and adjust as stated above.

Thanks. I didn't know which set up Honda used on the Accord in 07.
