Default First Honda Accord - Awesome.

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and new to Hondas. In fact I am new to cars all together. Up until now I have only owned old heaps as my budget has only allowed this. Now I am earning some real money I bought myself an 04 Honda Accord Euro - manual (This is what the 2.4litre 4-cyclinder is call in Australia).

I don't know much about cars but I do know what I like. An I love my Accord. Is it so fun to drive.

My question is: When I am feeling in the mood... I like to change gears at the 5000 - 7000 RPM. A friend of mine who was in the cars told me that I could damage the enginge drive like this.

Is this true?[&:]

Hello New Member...

Welcome to the forums and we hope your stay with us is for a long time..
Enjoy yourself in here..
If you miss a gear for example your could really mess up your car at that RPM, I wouldn't do it myself...others will reply after they read this post I'm sure..

Later....

My Accord red lines at about 6200rpm. If you try to go over that the rev limiter cuts in. I am pretty certain your 2.4 Accord will have a rev limiter.

So long as the rev limiter is working, then as far as I am concerned you can do it.

All that said it is probably advisable to not do it all the time. Definately not until the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature.

I would also advise that you allow the motor to warm up to operating temp. Yeah, and if you miss a gear (shift to 2nd instead of 4th), you would screw up the clutch for sure. Maybe even take some bearings out on the input shaft. I don't know why you'd be going like 100 though, but if you go that fast that's your thing.

If you shift to 4th instead of 2nd, you'll only hurt the clutch (oh so slightly) and you'll be embaressed.

I let my little turbo 2.2 redline at least once a day and it has given me over 140 k of reliable service. Keep that oil changed (I recommend at least every 5000 miles despite honda's recommended 7500). Play with the redline zone all you want, just don't go over it by shifting to a gear that's too low!

your euro is designed to happily rev over and over again just make sure that your car is completely broken in....so it should have at least 6500 kilometers on it. and make sure the oil is changed every 6000 kilometers. and you wont do any damage at all. i shift at 6250 at least once a day too...usually like 10 or 20 times a day and i have 400000 kilometers on my original motor
