Little things go bad and have to be taken care of.

Is the car an auto or manual? If auto, you need to keep up with the fluid changes - the auto trans in this gen are kind of flaky if not taken care of....IMHO, a drain and fill no more than every 30k.

Last, the timing belt "job" should be done ~100K or seven years.
