Default hmm i must be new if i'm posting here.

Hello All. I am new to this forum but not new to forums. I just picked up a 1996 Honda accord lx with the 2.2 4 banger and a crap-tastic 5 speed. Works pretty good though seeing i have to commute about 20 miles almost every day. I actually have so far figured about 25 miles per gallon average. which i am happy. Maybe I'll post some pictures of my stock crap. you guys can all ooohh and ahh over the dents in the hood from the previous owner hitting a deer :-D

Welcome, your not excited about the 5spd? Its a lot better than the alternative. 25 isnt very good at all. I get 33-34 in mine.

anywho hope you enjoy your stay.

If you want to maximize your MPG:
Be sure your tires are aired up near the max PSI marked on the tire.
Try not to accelerate too hard.
Drive the speed limit.
I always shift before I hit 3k RPM when I am wanting to save gas.
Try to coast in neutral as often as possible.
Dont leave the car running if you stop and get out anywhere for more than a minute or two.

Doing that I am able to get 30MPG doing a mostly city driving (I have to go through 17 traffic lights to get to work every day) with the AC blasting in my 2000 LX.

Before I implemented the above tecniques I was getting around 28mpg on the same route every day.

oh i know i probably could get better. the car could use a good tune up or even just an oil change the previous driver didn't take too good care of the car but it was cheap :-D free seeing it was my father in laws old car. I was driving a 2000 exploder before this and it completely crapped out on me. thanks for the tips of course i am having too much fun right now driving a 5 spd to shift when i should :-p. of course 25 mpg is good in comparison to a exploder. I have been a big honda fan i used to drive a 2001 Prelude in high school and was extremely pleased with that but my urge to have a truck was to big (Living in Minnesota can do that)
