Default I'm new.. and I need advice..

Ok this is my official first post on this forum... yayy! My 2002 PT Cruiser seems as if it is about to bite the dust.. damn Chryslers! I am becoming more and more interested in buying an Accord. And I have some questions for all of you. I was wondering what yall think of your cars.. everything.. the good points and the bad points. What years would be the most reliable? Anything that I should look out for? And I was also wondering if there are any ppl on here that work for Honda, and could tell me how much of a discount you can expect on both new and used cars? (Since my brother is a mechanic at our local Honda.) This is going to be my first car that I will buy for myself, so I need all the help I can get!

Thanks!!!!

1st off Welcome to the forums..
2nd your login name leads me to ask if you might be a Navy or Coast Guard Gal (slpknt) for slipnot 2886?

We have a few techs from Honda dealers in here so you might get their attention real soon.
Your brother should be able to get you a family members discount on your car...Ask Him!

I've got a 1998 (6th-generation) and a 2003 (7th-gen), both are 4-cylinder engines. Mostly, I like the 2003 better. Smoother, better engine beginning with 2003 (K-series engine).

The exceptions...

I think the '98 is better looking. That's a completely subjective opinion, it just looks more graceful or something like that.

The shift lever in the 2003 is in an awkward position for me. I can't get comfortable with it like my former Integra. Other than it's location, the 2003 shifter is really sweet, you'd never realize it's a cable shifter. Our '98 has an automatic tranny, so I really can't compare.

I absolutely LOVE mine, and it is 14 years old!! I have had it for a few years now, no real problems. I will drive it on long trips and all, some people think I am crazy to take a car with 175k on a 900 mile trip. If you buy used be sure if it is high mileage find out if timing belt was replaced, will be important so you will know if/when it needs to be done. I hear the most stories about my generation (90-93) being reliable and such, but I figure it is because they are older and it is more common to find older cars with 200k miles.

Overall, go with the Honda....top notch quality, it is worth the little bit more $$ than the less expensive brands.

I own a 1995 Accord V6 Sedan, and i LOVE!!! it. Its my first car, i just bought it about 3 months ago. It has held up so well over the last 11 years, the paint is perfect and everything is in good condition. When i was looking at cars Honda was the only thing i looked at, because they last so long, most of them run 150.000 miles+

I think a Honda would be a great choice for your next car. Believe me, you wont regret it.

If you decide to go for the V6 Accord stay far away from the 1998-02 models the 95-97 and 03+ ones are very reliable.

I drive a V6 and I get EXCELLENT city (23 on average) and amazing highway milage (34 at 78) and i like the air filtration and massive A/C system.
