Default it keeps going and going and .......

I am just curious. I have a '91 Accord. It was given to me by mother at approx 84,000miles when I needed a second car several years ago. The car keeps amazing me. It has 320,000+ miles on it and still gets ~31mpg on the freeway. Will this thing just keep going or what? What is the lifetime of these engines anyway. I changed the timing belt at 270,000 and they said it was probably the original (yeah I know I was real lucky at that lifetime). The clutch is original too. With the mpg high the rings must be good giving me high compression but it does leak oil more than a bit (1qt every 800miles or so).

Any suggestions on the care and feeding of this baby? I want to get it to 400,000miles if not see it all the way too 500,000. It's just not worth buying a new car when this is soooooo dependable. Have only done typical stuff..... alternator, radiator, battery, and of course a few sets of tires, besides the timing belt which I won't push so far next time.

can you find where it's leaking oil from? If you're getting that kind of economy and not blowing blue smoke then I'd assume your rings are ok but there's no guarantee of that aside from doing a compression test. As for longevity there was a "moon and back" chronicles on you tube where a guy took his out to 500,000 miles (burnt up the motor at about 470,000 ish...)

I personally knkow a guy that had a civic with the original motor in it at 620k miles.. he traveled all over and racked up miles on that bad boy...

now that's not to say that's common, because we all know cars degrade over time... as long as you keep bandaiding it and replacing a few things here n there, i'm sure it'll last as long as you can keep the body on the frame

Try to locate the oil leak. It could easily be simply the oil pan gasket. That is not supposed to be too difficult to DIY. deserthonda did a write up on how to do it on a 5th gen Accord in the DIY section.
Crawl under the car and remove the splash guard. You should be able to tell if it is the oil pan gasket.
It could also be one of the seals if the tbelt was just changed for the first time. I don't imagine any of those seals had been previously changed if the tbelt hadn't ever beendone. Did whoever changed the t-belt change the seals too?

Haha, yea man, cb7's are dependable if kept up well. Id suggest keeping in some good spark plugs (ngk preferrably), wires and use 10w-40 oil since you have high mileage. Visit cb7tuner.com also, its lots of good info and help there for the 90 - 93 accords...
