Default New Accord Owner - 2016 EX - Oil Change ?

Thrilled to be an Accord owner! Just purchased a new 2016 Accord EX and has a question about oil changes. Owners manual does not mention and the dealer suggested 4k-5k before first change. I was just curious if this was standard or if anyone had any suggestions.

Also - is there an engine break in period or is this just a myth? 500 miles or 1,000 miles? Dealer said those days are over and I tend to agree but my inner conscious is always debating. I have been easy on it so far (200 miles in).

Great car so far - looking forward to many years of enjoyment from it.

Regards,

John

Congrats on the new car.

Consult the Owner's Manual regarding the break in and the oil change. Honda (the company not the dealership chain) recommends you leave the factory fill of oil in the engine until the OLM shows 15% or less of remaining life for the oil. Regarding the factory fill; the word on the street is the engine is put together with a molybdenum paste which functions as an assembly lube as well as a break-in additive.

The owner's manual for the 2016 Accord suggests that we take it easy for the first 500 miles. However, I didn't read this until after my Accord had almost 800 miles on it

Oil change depends upon driving conditions.. as Shippo has stated, the car will let you know when the oil needs to be changed. A lot a people say at 15%, others are going with 50%. I changed the oil in my 2015 at 70%, but that was only because I had driven it for a year... 3,800 miles. My dealer had advised me to go by the 15% or one year, which ever came first.

Hey, though... it's your car, right. Do what makes you feel comfortable
