New member, 87 accord question
Hello from Washington State! Question- I've done a little searching but have not yet found the answer, maybe someone can provide me some direction!
I aquired an 87 Accord LXI 5 speed, fuel injected. bad 5th gear, previous owner ran tranny dry. Is there any other transmissions that will fit this aplication?
thanks in advance! Stan

First of all, welcome to the forum, Srhea59
The 1987 Accord belongs to the 3rd generation, so if you're considering a swap on the transmission.. any year between 1985-1989, from an LX (4 cylinder) should mate

Welcome.....stick with the 86 to 89 Accord manual trans. The 85 falls into the 2nd gen and trust me there are differences.
I've had many 3rd gen Accord's (at least 5 and still have one).....so you can call me the resident 3rd gen fan on here
I just love the little guys,

Use something like "car-part" dot com and search bone yards, there are other sites as well.
Quick look I saw a few in the "state" of Washington for 250~350 using car-part. I let a 87 LX 5 speed go to the bone yard after it got rear-ended in the drivers/left rear.....could hardly put gas in it and the rear left/drivers side door would not open as the rear quarter was pushed in enough it had the door jammed. Engine/trans and front end were fine, the damage to the rear just meant it was time to let a good old friend go

Good luck on the lead.....just be sure to check the oil in the old one to see if there are any "signs" of issues. Then be sure to drain and re-fill the new one with fresh oil.
Personally in these old 3rd gen;s, 10w40 motor oil is what you want to use in the manual trans. Nothing fancy, just plain old dino 10w-40 and you are good to go.
