New member - car question please
Hello.
I just purchased a 1995 Honda Accord four door sedan. I still haven't determined if it's a DX or an LX. It's an automatic transmission V6. Does that tell me anything about DX or LX?
Anyway....the one key I received opens the drivers door, starts the car, opens the trunk, turns the fuel door lock inside, etc. but it does not open the passenger door.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on how I might rectify this.
Also....are there any remote lock/unlock devices still available for purchase for this old Honda?
Sorry if I'm using any incorrect terms.
Thank you.

Thanks for joining HAF.
There is a VIN decoder on this forum you can use to answer the question - DX vs LX.
The pass door is a hard one to know for sure - did someone replace the handle and lock with another one (meaning a different key needed) or is there something wrong with the lock. You'd have to pull the handle and check for damage, if none many locksmiths can change the tumblers in the lock to match the key you have.
Yes, many places sell remote systems that will work on your car.

Welcome to the forum.
1. A 1995 Accord V6 only came in LX or EX trim. If it has a stock moonroof, then it is an EX.
2. Does the passenger door lock and unlock, even without the key?
3. If you have an EX, you can get a remote and program it yourself. See this link for part number and instructions.

Ok thank you!
It has the moonroof so it's an EX.
The interior automatic door locks are working on all the doors except after I push the button to lock the doors, the drivers door unlocks itself so I have to use the key to lock that door.
The key will not open the passenger door so it could be a replacement lock.
Thank you!

1. Regarding the driver's door, that is a built-in feature to try to help prevent locking yourself out with the key in the ignition. To lock the driver's door without the key, pull the handle (inner or outer) and push the door lock down, release the handle and close the door.
Owner's manual link is here:

2. For the 95 EX V6, if it came with an optional dealer installed Honda security unit, then you could just add the Honda remote transmitter referred to in this link: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/98-011.pdf//
It probably does not have it; normally that unit is installed under the driver's seat (see attached pic.).
3. If it doesn't have the optional dealer installed Honda security control unit, you can just get any aftermarket remote keyless entry system.
Basically to install an aftermarket keyless system:
Aftermarket system
The Honda door locks are "negative trigger", so when you get an aftermarket keyless system, you would use the instructions for a negative trigger system.

Basically to install an aftermarket keyless system:
Aftermarket system
- Power wire (+) to car's power source that is always hot
- Ground wire (-) to car's ground
- Lock wire to car's Blk/Wht lock wire (Blk/Wht is a wire with black colored insulation with a white stripe running through it).
- Unlock wire to car's orange unlock wire.
The Honda door locks are "negative trigger", so when you get an aftermarket keyless system, you would use the instructions for a negative trigger system.
