Default New owner of a 99 V6. 2 dr

Just got the car and so far I love it.....but of course like everyone want to make it faster but not with major mods. so what gives the most noticible gains?

I want to get some nice chrome wheels should I go with 17's or 18's Id prefer 18's but want a good ride still.

also want to get a nice sound system...what size are the front speakers and what would u recommend for my setup? I can do components and get an amp.

anything else I should know?

only thing I am not so happy with is how the car shifts...shifts pretty slow and kinda hard(still drives fine!)

Thanks everyone!

your trans is dying. Harsh slow shifting are sure signs that it will die soon. Does the car do it when it is cold?

Forget the mods and put aside about $4K for a new trans

it does it all the time...it doesnt downshift very good and stays at low RPM so anytime I give it gas it gotta rev first before much power...

luckily for me the car came with a warrenty on the transmission...

can anyone else know that it is dying?

thanks!

If the car is reving/sounds like it's reving but you're not increasing speed very much then that would indicate that it's slipping (feels/seems like you're fighting a hill but you're on level ground) the easiest way to see this one is if you suspect that's happening then start out down the road, throttle into it a bit and watch the rpm's come up, then keep your foot nice and even and if you start a decent amount of speed increase but no real signifigant change in rpm's then tranny is slipping and is REALLY bad...
the other test to do is try to go up a hill and if you're having some serious power issues and your car is revving signifigantly but you're not gaining anything then once again your tranny is slipping and needs work...

It's very un-characteristic of a Honda, let alone a V6, to be sluggish on shifting, it's no hard/fast sports car feel but it is firm and solid under normal operations...

your tranny is definately going out. when a j30 tranny is in good working order upshifts are utterly silky and downshifts are quick, powerful, and responsive.

but it is normal for the car to try and hold the current gear for as long as possible under light/light medium throttle.
