No More American Cars
Its a shame but I just brought my first ever foreign car.
last car was the 2004 Taurus SES its a good car but the need for gas consumption and dealer service was the big reason I switch.
This 2005 Accord is awsome.....

RE: No More American Cars
I drove my Dad's 2004 Impala and this is why I think American cars suck... Comparison is made to a 1998 accord LX-V6 coupe
First off the car appears to be very nice with leather seats, shift ****, and steering wheel. Car also has a sunroof, traction control, descent stereo with CD, power seats, windows and door locks. Other things include dual zone climate control, storage everywhere, abs, tire pressure monitor, and keyless entry/alarm
My car: Leather steering wheel and shift ****, AM/FM/Cassete/CD player, Power windows and door locks, ABS, keyless entry/immobilizer
First thing I notice: The glove box door does not fit the lower panel as it appears to curl down at each corner giving the car the look of poor quality
Seating: Not nearly as good as the buckets in the Honda but they are comfortable.
Guage cluster: Not as easy to read as the Honda overall but has some useful features such as fuel computer and outside temp indicator. Major dislike is the blue vaccum florescent digital readouts for PRNDL and the trip computer and white analog guages for speedo, tach, fuel, and temp guage. Guages are smaller as well.
Engine: 3.4L 180HP. Redline is 6K? 5.3K and beyond the engine makes noises that I have never heard before- sounds like it cannot breathe well and a vaccum cleaner in your ear makes less noise. You do not have to reach far into the RPM range to get the car to move though (thank God) Honda V6- does anything made by the big three really compare to it in terms quiet and refinement? The down side is LACK OF LOW END GRUNT. The accord is quicker to the 60 mark without a doubt although you gotta get it above 4K before the fun starts
Steering: Way too light and absolutly no feel at all it's like driving a boat. It also requires a lot more corrections than what I am used to. My accord has speed sensitive steering and I love it not to mention that the car tracks straight and requires little to no correction depending upon the road.
Suspension: Rides very well but compared to an accord, it can't even come close. Go around a corner at moderate speed and you get plenty of body roll and tire squeal. Drive down a dirt road and the accord is much better at soaking up all of those washboard bumps in terms of amt of noise made.
Brakes: This is where the Impala falls short, when you come to a stop the car vibrates ever so slightly and this is with NEW BRAKES (pads and rotors) for comparison, my car will not need front brakes until somewhere around 120K for the first time. It is not known when the rear brakes will be done but I had them done at 91K on my car. Stopping in the accord is quick and vibration free.
Build quality: Panel gaps are too wide for a 2004 car and both front fenders can be pulled away from the hood at the corners where the meet the doors (holy crap). The panel gaps on the accord are about 1/3 of what they are on the impala. Also The doors are MUCH HARDER to close than the ones on the accord even though the impala is a 4 door and the accord is a 2 door.
Transmission: Impala and Accord are the same here. Impala clunks going into gear but it will most likely last well past 150K where the accord is lucky if the trans makes it to 90K let alone 150K. Shift quality is better on the accord....overall Impala gets this one simply due to the fact that the trans will easily outlast the accord one (see sig)
Interior noise: This is about the only area where the car actually does well it is quiet on par with my car.
The last time I drove a GM car was 1984 OLDs and overall things really have not changed much in my eyes in terms of the driving experinence with GM cars.
You would think that by this time, GM would have figured out that their cars need to be BETTER than cars that are 6 years older... and they are wondering why they are quickly loosing market share to Toyota and Honda
I let my Dad drive my car and he could not believe that my car has nearly 100K miles on it and drives better than his car with about half that milage on it.....not to mention that the engine was smaller and made more HP. He commented on how clean the car was and how well laid out everything was and no rattles or squeaks.

RE: No More American Cars
There's no shame in a well engineered, quality oriented japanese car. Welcome to the honda world, Daveyjones. Just keep the maintenence up and your car will give you years of trouble free service.
The honda auto transmissions really need to have their tranny fluid drained and refilled at the recommended interval. They are very sensitive to this it seems. I'm not saying you negleted your tranny, YeuEmMaiMai, in any way. Just pointing out a little honda tid bit.
GM seems to have been cutting corners for a while now. It's a shame to see that happen. I've been upset with them ever since they pulled the trans am off the market... I wish I could say different, but I don't see them turning things around any time soon

I rented a Taurus last year, though not by choice I expected one of them Magnums. Anyway the car drove well, was comfortable and quiet. Unfortunately I found it un-believably tiresome. No character.
We nicknamed it the Ford Baurus. Hope you enjoy your Accord much more.
