Hey Gang,

Well, my trusty old 2001 Accord EX V6 is going up on the auction block in the next couple of weeks. Why? Well, if for no other reason than I really miss driving a car with a manual gearbox so much. With the above in mind, I followed my own advice in that instead of trying to retrofit the Accord with a 6-Speed manual from an Acura CL, I went out and found an "almost" Accord with a factory 6-Speed. An "almost" Accord you ask, yeah, the closest thing to an Accord without actually being one; a 2006 Acura TL 6-Speed.

I'll be picking the TL up either Friday or Saturday this coming week, and then I'll list the Accord for sale.

Does this mean you'll be leaving and taking your wisdom with you? Sorry to hear about you getting rid of your Accord, but I don't blame you on not wanting to do a 6 speed conversion, as that's about 4 grand plus trying to find an NLA conversion wiring harness (since Richie isn't making them any more). That last part would be enough for me to not do it.

But then I've got a 4 cylinder 5 speed car, as I like shifting for myself (makes me feel connected to the car).
Oh, an if the AT in my wife's car goes out, I plan on just replacing the trans with another AT (no conversion for her car).

Completely understand this decision, as I too haven't owned a manual transmission in a couple years and really miss it.

I would argue that the TSX is a closer almost Accord though.

Hmmm, the TSX? I've never researched that car, but I always thought the TSX was intended as the Integra replacement and was built (for the U.S. market) in Japan; the U.S. models of the Accord and TL are, as I understand it, built off the same platform, side-by-side in the Marysville, OH factory.

It is splitting hairs either way, if a V6 TSX with a 6-Speed manual ever comes my way, if such a thing exists, I'd be happy to drive it.

Edit:
I just looked on Acura TL page in Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_TL) and found the following quote:
The first third-generation Acura TL rolled off the assembly line on September 30, 2003. On October 6, 2003, the third generation Acura TL (the 3.2 moniker was dropped) was released for sale in North America. Developed mainly in the United States by a team led by Erik Berkman with bodywork by American Honda designer Jon Ikeda, the new TL was built in Marysville, Ohio, and was derived from the 7th generation US-market Honda Accord.

Nice new ride there .

Yea, I only have one manual trans left and it is funny how much I still like to drive the little guy . In fact yesterday I got it out for a good little drive - at least 40 miles, yea that is sad - as I needed to put some gas in it.

Hope you enjoy the new ride...ps you can still stick around if you want

I made the argument for the TSX as in non US markets its sold as an Accord, but it seems the TL has a good argument as well.

Some of us stick around even when we don't own anything like an Accord any more...

Cool. I'd hate to see your knowledge disappear from the forums.
Beautiful looking Accura you have there. I love driving a stick, and have a couple here to choose from. But there are days when an AT is nice (like rolling thru stop and go traffic).
