Default Sorta newbie

Hello,
I signed up to be a member here about 5 years ago because my nephew bought a 98 Accord; I'm familiar to Honda's because I have an 03 CRV Ex and 2010 Pilot EX. my nephew's 98 Accord was totaled in 2011 so he now drives an 03 Tiburon. I am coming back because I just purchased a 02 EX V6 Coupe for my son with 170K on the clock. I know it has a lot of miles but the car drove fine and actually drove like new. Hoping to get to 300K with proper maintenance. got it from a local dealer for 4200 out the door which I believe is a fair price. I will post pics when I can but this will be a Xmas gift for my son even though he's paying part of the car. So I will be doing some small modding during winter and some in the summer mostly cosmetic and not performance, I think the car have enough power for a 16 y/o boy. Hope to get some insights from you guys. cya later.

Nice ride for the boy

I'm sure you know the dril on these. On that model you really want to stay on top of the trans fluid changes......other than that, the normal stuff.

Welcome back.

Thanks. Car drives great, got the infamous P1457 code. I think I'll wait til it's a wee bit warmer before I replace the vent shut valve which seems to be the popular fix to this type of code. So in the meantime, I reset the CEL unless you guys have any other suggestion. I've been reading about it and there seems to have quite a few oppositions .to wait or not to wait. also did our first mod - smoke rear marker lights which is funny because I accidentally snapped the wiring on the passenger side so it does not light up at this time (my dumb *** move )- replacement parts already on the way. lol. Have been a busy week for me and my son. Few more mods is on the list but first thing he wants to do is an aftermarket radio for his Ipod touch - figures

So you have been a bit busy, nice.

It could be the two-way or the shut valve. There are a few tests that can be done to try to narrow it down.

A smoke test is one of them.

Are you, or is the car from a place where lots of salt is used on the roads?

I ask because one of them, memory says the shut, is bolted to the canister. If the roads see a lot of salt and that, the bolts that hold it to the canister can be a real pain to remove.....just a heads up.
