The correct question would be...

Is the turbocharger from a lancer a good turbo for my F22?

Answer....depends on what turbo it is. You can make any turbo fit any car.

I think that your best bet is to find out the model and trim of the donor car and look that up on Wikipedia. If that doesn't turn up anything, try a Lancer forum.

You can make any turbocharger itself fit (I'm talking about the snail-looking part). The only thing you gotta worry about is clearance. I imagine it should say somewhere on the snail what turbo it is. You'll probably have to do some custom fabbing though(probably not too expensive)and make sure you get a turbo manifold that fits. then you got to tackle the whole engine management aspect (ECU stuff) - that can get expensive.

A turbo setup requires a whole new fuel map since your air is compressed. You need a richer mixture for the whole rpm spectrum. Ignition timing helps too, but may not be necessary for a little boost.

Read up on setting up a custom turbo system .... KevinAccord has done it. Basically that is what you are doing, just starting with a turbo that you found. I'm pretty sure the whole thing has been covered, so search for "turbo" and get to reading!!! Good luck!

Actually, it's probably covered in the section stickies ..... been a while since I looked at them.

Yeah I don't understand any of that fuel map stuff either. All I knoe is "buy an engine management system" and "get it tuned." Other than that I'm clueless. never had a turbo car before, never driven one, never even looked under the hood of one up close. I've just read a lot about tham and understand the basic concepts.

The fuel map is simple an x-y coordinate graph with rpms on the bottom and "fuel" on the left side. I say fuel, because it can be AF ratio, cc/min rate, % +/-, etc. ..... they all really mean and will do the same thing (as far as te map is concerned).

Stochiometric (chemically ballanced) AF ratio is 14.7:1 by mass. Engines need to be a bit rich so the liquid fuel on the cylinder wall insulates the cylinder itself from the flame front. Performance engines are normally tuned to be close to 13.3:1 so there is a bit of extra gas in the exhaust (not for that reason, but that is the result) .... a turbo engine could be anywhere from 11.5:1 to 13.5:1 depending on how compressed the air is ..... remember that we are using the OEM calibrated sensors that calculate based on NA pressures. The higher the boost, the more correction is needed. A 13.0:1 tuning on an 8psi engine may in reality be closer to 13.3:1 after the compression is accounted for.
