say u have 160,000mi. adding a turbo would be a.... good or bad idea?

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

First, get rid of the Bosch plugs before they fry your ignition coil, then post compression test numbers for us to evaluate.

get under ur car and take out the oil pan, check the inside of the engine, if it looks clean... then that's good (this is just one of the things to do, not the only one)... also follow falkore's advise... get NGK. make sure the timing belt is in good condition, and check the the pulleys, also make sure u have a good tranny. at least in good condition. uuuhhhhmmmm.... i think that's it...

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

A transmission cooler is a must for a automatic transmission. Failure to get one, if you do turbo your car will make your tranny wear out prematurely.

and use of the search function on the site..... cause failure to use it adds needless repeat questions and needless repeat answers and constant showing that you dont read forum provided information ^_^

It's the Hayden 403 .... been putting that one off, but I'm thinking that I have to get off my arse on this and the multi-changes.

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

so u say it'd be safe for the turbo? if so what type?

marbro 12-03-2007 02:04 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

eh, the 405 is the largest you can get, for that line so i guess it would be prepairing for 100+hp then ^_-

falkore24 12-03-2007 02:09 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

I know what you mean, but does it fit??? Since this part is in addition to the stock cooler, anything is an improvement. I had been under the assumption that the 403 was chosen for fitment rather than performance. The 403 is the tranny cooler of choice in all of the DIY's that I have read for our cars, so I'd just go with that.

I would imagine so. You may want to talk to KevinAccord on that one. He DIY'd his. It's cheapest to piece it together rather than buying a kit. A kit will cost roughly twice as much as piecing it together would cost.

KevinAccord 12-03-2007 02:37 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

im here! what do u need to know? i'll let u know that it's not too hard to do it... and guys, thanx 4 the cooler info... getting mine if a few days...

403 tranny cooler and turbo would be no prob?

KevinAccord 12-03-2007 10:45 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

yeap... u did do the compression check, so there should be no prob...

where should I get one?

KevinAccord 12-04-2007 12:26 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

at autozone or pepboys or something like that...

94Honda 12-04-2007 01:56 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

how much do they cost?

KevinAccord 12-04-2007 01:59 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

sorry, no idea... it's not expensive, im sure of that...

falkore24 12-04-2007 03:18 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

I think their about $35.

Also, I think that Velo is selling a 404 or 405.

94Honda 12-04-2007 05:54 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

sweet thats not bad. whats the diff. between a 404 or 405

Falkore: he's talking about a compression check, not the tranny cooler! hahaha!

well i was talking about the diff. between the 405 and 404 tranny cooler and was wondering how much a cooler and turbo would cost

KevinAccord 12-04-2007 08:48 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

but he price falkore gave u is the trnny cooler price, not he compression check price... about the 404 and 405, it's the size difference i believe...

No, he's definately asking about the tranny cooler. He already posted the compression #'s...so obviously he already has one or knows someone with one.

The turbo cost will all depend onwhere you buy the stuff. If you bought a kit it would cost around $3,000. If youslowly pieced it togetheryou should be able to get it done for $1,500 or less. Labor for the install is not included. Unless you can DIY you are looking at a pretty hefty price tag.

94Honda 12-05-2007 11:15 AM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

1500 is pretty cheap, what do u mean by peice it togeather?

falkore24 12-05-2007 11:25 AM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

He means that you find the best prices on all of the individual parts. Turbo, BOV, turbo timer if needed (my autostarter/alarm can provide this function), oil cooler, oil lines, maybe a baffled or cooled oil pan, intercooler, air plumbing, AF controls, turbo controls, etc.

vs. a kit with everything ..... if you go the kit route, sometimes the intercooler and piping is included and sometimes not, sometimes they include E-Manage for the ECU, etc. There are all sorts of accessories and you need to be familiar with what is available to be sure that you get what you want.

IMO, piecing the system together is better because you pay less, get exactly what you want down to the manufacturers and you learn about the parts, their functions, better and worse designs, design flaws, etc.

94Honda 12-05-2007 11:36 AM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

ooohhhh. so u can buy everything u need for about 1500. including piping BOV intercooler etc?
thats so cheap its almost unbelievable. lol

00AccordLX5spd 12-05-2007 11:46 AM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

You do have to find good deals though.

94Honda 12-05-2007 11:54 AM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

yeah true.

falkore24 12-05-2007 12:05 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

I don't think that the 1500 number is possible with an intercoooler kit. Also, the piping is usually custom made.

It seems that $2800-3000 is a good number for a pieced kit with all of the goodies that you'd want.

94Honda 12-05-2007 01:51 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

yeah, so w/o the intercooler and if i custom made the piping 1500 would probly be possible?

falkore24 12-05-2007 04:32 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

It might be, but you still have Bosch plugs .... j/k

1500 will be hard to do ..... especially with a good quality turbo that will last.

94Honda 12-05-2007 11:23 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

heeyyyy. yeah im gonna get the plugs this friday im pretty excited, haha. you dont think i messed up my coil any do ya?

falkore24 12-06-2007 12:11 PM

RE: old motor + turbo ='s

if your car runs ok and the speedometer works properly without large swings, then I think it's fine ..... for today.
