Default 2005 Honda Accord V6

Hello:

I am currently shopping for a replacement car. Seeking reliability ( as my car is in the shop a lot, I am looking at Hondas. I have located a 2005 Honda (4 door) (automatic) Accord Ex-l with 97K miles selling 8995.00 ( not sure if this is a good or bad price) at a reputable dealer. The car has the V6 3.0 engine in it. ( I am not sure if, since it has the the above mentioned engine it that it would be a hybrid). It looks great inside and out and rides even greater. My questions are as follows:

I have read that the 2005's are known for transmission failures( automatic) . Is this also the case with the hybrids (assuming the one i am looking at is a hybrid)? I am not able to find much distinguishing the hybrids from the non hybrids.

Following up on that question, I had one about milage on the v6 3.0.. It has a 17 gallon tank ( from what i can tell). Should I even expect remotely good milage with the V6 as I would with the 4 cyl? Better? Worse? the same?

And finally, how many miles should I realistically expect to be able to put on this car ( assuming all regular maint, etc)? I would be happy to get 10 years out of it. Is that unreasonable since it is a 10 year old car already?

Sorry for the "newbie" questions. I have heard so many good things over the years. I am not able to get a new one so hence the questions. Any feedback on any aspect of the 2005 Accord ( v6 3.0) would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks..

Comments:
  • Just because a 2005 Accord has a 3.0 liter V6 does in no way mean it is a Hybrid; chances are extremely high the car does not have a hybrid drivetrain.
  • What do you consider good mileage? The 3.0 liter V6 in my 2001 Accord typically returns 24-25 mpg in mixed driving and about 30 mpg on the highway.
  • Any car can last 10 years; drive it sparingly and it will last practically forever; how many miles per year to you drive? Said another way, there should be no reason why you cannot put another 150,000 miles on it.

When buying a used car, it is advisable to have a pre-purchase vehicle inspection which should include carfax report. I have found these inevitably lead to some issues that can be negotiated, or in worst case an issue to walk away from.

Inspection service should scan car w/ Obd2 scanner and report readiness condition and presence/absence of any codes or pending codes.

Expect to pay $150-$250 for inspection. it's worth every penny IMO.

good luck
