Default RE: Dads 1979 Dodge Lil' Red Express....

Thanks for all the replies

I forgot about the Midnight Express', exact same truck except they were black and they really mainly sold them in California. Then in the early 90's they made Lil Red Dakotas, so you should google those white95if you dont know much about them!

The difference between the 78 and 79 was that the 78's had round headlights and had a higher speedometer. The 79's like ours have two square headlights on each side and the speedometer only goes to 85, apparently the govt thought people would speed less.

As for the EPA, they began putting stiff regulations on high performance cars. Since most trucks back then were used for farming, they were usually exempt as long as they were a 1/2 ton at minimal. So they made it pretty stiff to comply with the rules so they could put w/e engine in it as they pleased. This allowed a small truck with a huge motor to be produced. It had the 360 police interceptor motor in it and shes a quick one! I hope it stays in the family...but my dad may sell it and buy an older Viper. How sweet would that be?!?! Of course he'll have to save for YEARS AND YEARS!

WheelBrokerAng Thats cool! I am sure youve had plenty of rides in them then! Was there a huge demand for them and did the dealers add a huge premium for them?
