Have you guys heard this?
I dont understand it completely, but oh well. With Smaglik's post of cell phones, it made me think of this.
If you didnt know, all analog signals (for tv stations) will be stopped in 2009. This is so they can sell the air waves to make money (gee what a surprise) and if you have a tv that is not SDTV ready and want local/antanna stations you will need a special $70ish receiver.
Anyways, rumor has it that Google may purchase those analog frequencies and could create a new phone network. One, that it does not matter what kind of phone you have (sim card) and it can be used anywhere that tv's could get reception from. I think they would offer the phone service for free as long as you viewed ads or they were allowed to advertise or something. Ill try to dig it up. I guess its not just cell phones but the net too.

Sucks for cable companies and internet providers in big cities. And any one that doesn't pay for cable or satellite TV. Google definitely has the money. i just wonder if they'll actually follow through with it.

This reminds me of the free wireless for all scheme that was being rumored/kicked around for a while. I don't know if anyone remembers it but intially it was going to become a nationwide thing, then it went to the san fransisco only area.... then the plans seemed to fade away
