I just read an Associated Press story on this ...He is from Saco, Maine. Yesterday, the town and American Honda gave a parade in his honor. He was given a new 2012 Accord by American Honda. Joe is a former Honda mechanic and has done nearly all of his own work. He swears that the engine and transmission are the originals to the car.
He credits always using Honda parts and careful maintennance schedules. Amazing...

Amazed the underbody held up that well in Maine, although rust is a factor of age more then miles

I am amazed that any AT could survive that long, even with proper fluid changes.

My Fit has an AT, and I am glad it does, considering how little power the car has, and how steep and long the grades are on the interstates near me. It shifts all the time, and will hold at 5500 going up the long grades (10mi) in 3rd gear. Its like a go-kart.
