Default K series is underrated??

Comments that follow are from Shawn Church: Honda underrates a K-series motor - by a lot. Remember, this engine was supposed to produce 160 hp and 161 lbs-ft of torque - at the crank! Judging by these numbers, it's producing closer to 170 lbs-ft and 175 hp. Which explains why it's so darn quick.
That just made my day 10x brighter!

EDIT- Maybe I can beat my friend in the Mazda3....

I had read that some time ago. Honda made a little sleeper out of the four banger by fudging the figures a bit.

you have to keep in mind a lot of car companies fudge the hp figures to help reduce the cost of car insurance

I remember the old BMWs underrated their 3-series by as much as 20 horses. People were stratching their heads wondering why their turbos only produced so little power.

if you slap a k20 head on there, you'll win the race with your friend's mazda for sure.

God...that's like the 2-3rd time you said that. Is the k20a head REALLY that effective? And I assume you're talking about the intake manifold...Is it a direct fit? I also assume there are some minute differences between the k24 and k20 engines. Don't I have to change pistons and rods? Too much work for too little gain?

I rather just get some Apexi muffler and catback.

If you want to see underrated, look at the Dodge Neon SRT-4. It was rated at 230 hp at the crank from the factory, but was dynoed at anywhere from 223 to 248 hp at the wheels, stock. I want one, but thats a car you just cant buy used, because it has been thrashed too much lol. No one buys a car like that to be nice to it.

haha yea its the about the 2nd-3rd time ive said it. but it does have good gains if you wanna go N/A. By building it properly, you can get up to 270 whp...and to make it, you switch out the head of the k24 and place the k20 head on it after you bore it. and yea, you need different pistons and rods, I was planning on doing it, but it was out of my reach

the k series has a lot of potential as mentioned on various forums. there was a guy who did this and was boosted and got up to 600whp and around 500 something torque.

K series is just undiscovered and tuners haven't moved on from the B and H series. Give it 3-5 years. I won't be surprised at this outrageous 7th gen accords with 500+ HP and 515 ft.lbs of torque running at 10-15 psi boost.
