you could try a power brake of sorts... put it down into first and hold the brakes tight, rev the engine up a bit and drop the brake and slam the gas and you should launch faster

my friend who has an auto mustang does something like what sir_nasty suggested with power braking. He basically stands on the prake pedal and floors the gas. Then when the light turns green he dumps the brake and the car takes off better than just stamping on the gas.

I wouldn't recommend doing that for a long time (like over 10 secs) since you're heating the trans fluid up more than you should. And never N - Bomb the thing! That's when you hold the revs at a certain RPM (say 4000 for instance) and just drop it into D. Not cool for your trans at all. I'd do the power brake thing if anything.

I would not recomend power braking this auto trans on the V6 accord. IT is fairly fragile..........

Curiousity compels me to ask, since it's an auto tranny and your starting it in D1, are the upshifts going to hurt the tranny at all being that it's not meant to be manually shifted?

I'm sure it's putting extra wear on the tranny. Ideally, a modified transmission would be best and would perform better.

On a side note, I shifted my old dodge truck's auto like a stick for years (ahh the joys of being a teenager) and I never had a problem with it, and to this day the tranmission runs fine. It is my dad's truck now and he doesn't even change the trans fluid ever (just doesn't believe in it). I'm not recommending abusing automatics, though.

manually shifting the auto is pointless since the ECU already sifts at optimal points under WOT
