Default Midas....

Alright, I had them put on my OBX header and Apexi WS2 catback at the same time. Then my header was giving me issues and I have gotten sick of it. So I had them put the stock one on again for a lovely expensive price. Anyways, the mpg went up 1-2 mpg and I got 31mpg finally on a trip on the interstate going 70-75 for 2 hours each way. But the mpg is going down again so I have tightened the nuts a couple times on the studs. There is one nut that isnt a Honda one..it looks like a basic gen. hardware nut. So I started tightening it down and it wasnt tightening and then it just snapped so now the stud is barely attatched and I plan on going to Midas and telling them I never tightened them and have them replace it for free. And I think I have payed more than enough for them toput it on and off.
I went in and the guy said it has to cool down befoe he can look at it (I already knew that b/c of the alum.) and I dont have much time because I work alot now and go to school. But I forgot to tell him I already knew where it was leaking b/c of the black soot. Hes like well if its a rusted bolt or something we dont warranty that b/c the install comes w/ a 12k mile / 1 year warranty.

Any tips on what I should say? Cause they will prolly say that it just happened when I floored the car or something. I just plan on acting like an idiot about cars and say I never tightened them.

I am still getting about 24.5 mpg and I have been doing quite a bit of highway driving, 34 miles a day for 3 days a week. Maybe my o2 sensors ae getting bad or my dist. cap b/c my plugs are double plat. NGK's that are about a year old and my wires are VisionWorks that came with the plugs. I am trying to wait as long as I can before I go in for the free tune up that Honda has for my car b/c of the EPA.

hmm, i wonder why your header uses the normal nuts
because when i got my header installed, my mechanic told me that the nuts on my car are anti loosening ones.
i tightened them a few times to make sure, but they weren't loose at all.

Well most of them look different so I am assuming they are anti loosening, but 2 look like reg. nuts. And they always become loose....so idk?
Have a pic of them?

i would definitely avoid lying. Why would the item snap (though I admit I am abit confused) without anyone touching it?

I would also probably avoid midas in the future. If you're going to pay someone, find a reputable shop.

The stud basically sheared off when I tightened it...and this was using a socket wrench with barely any force, my body wasnt pushing down on it. But the stud is apparantly still barely attatched as it hasnt fallen off.

If thats the stud sticking out v, the I is where the break is.

It is because all the nuts were loose. And the odd looking nut that is silver was so loose I could spin it with my fingers so I started tightening it and it just sheared off. So its there fault they used an idiot nut. And if I have them fix the stud I have to pay another $164 for them to take off the manifold, buy new gaskets, just for the stud replacement. And since the nut kept on spinning....I think the stud may have already been slightly sheared thats why it wasnt tightening.

Midas has usally been pretty good to use for window replacment, struts, and a cat for my dads car.

just be honest with them. it should have been tight to begin with, and you didnt do anythig out of the ordinary. they should take care of it on their dime.

Not only that, you can show them that they did not use the same type of bolts that Honda recommends for the installation. Personally, I use Grade 8 on all exhaust parts, but I didn't do the headers myself ..... also, I've already weeded through about 15 mechanics and came up with 3 that I use for different tasks and 2 or 3 specialty shops.
