Multiple Oil Test/Review (A MUST READ!!)
I found this over on www.6thgenaccord.com (posted by Tek Rice) and thought members of HAF would benefit from it/find it interestingtoo: http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf
I wonder how that new "Q" oil would stand up to this test. According to their commercials Ferrari "recommends" it in their cars. I don't know how true that is though
The modicon says it all. I wish they had tested the dirt-cheap recycled/new oil blends (store brand oil). My father was in the combustion industry,
and designed and built equipment for every refinery in the world. He swore up and down that the cheap oil was nearly the same as the most expensive. The businesses that market oil do not make it, they just repackage the stuff that comes from refineries. The royal purple does seem suprising, tho.
And not to be a smart*ss, but could they have heated the oil to a few hundred degrees, as if it were in an engine? All the oils talk about thermal breakdown, but no heat in the test-at all?
I leased a truck and drove it for 22,000 miles over 2 years on the factory oil with no problem. Never buy fleet/lease vehicles.
The Flease was so much that I figured I should save money wherever possible. I added about 3 quarts in that period of time.

Thanks for the link.
This report was interesting to me because I've used Mobil 1 since Day 1, 15 years ago, and the engine still performs beautifully. From reading those test results, I might easilyconclude that our engine should be worn out by now.
The report may in fact be honest and easily reproducible by anyoneperformingthe sametest. I think that ifan outfit like Consumer Reports did the same tests and got the same results, for our next car I might use some of thatunbelievablyexpensive Royal Purple oil.
However, something important to keep in mind is that any of these oil manufacturers could change their formulations dramatically at any moment. This year's"model" oil may be far different than next year's.Sorepeat tests should be performed on these oils frequently in orderto keep the oil manufacturers on their best behavior.
What would be nice would be for consumers to have a simple standardtestthat theycould perform at hometodetermine for themselves which oil is the best. (Umm ....... now that I think about it, maybe that's what I've in fact been doing for the last15 years, and our engine has been "the test".)

Valdeez and Tony both have good points. I was also kind of suspicious of their test.
I was happy that Valvoline performed pretty well though as I use Valvoline Max Life in both of my Accords (mainly because the Valvoline oil change place in town has the most honest techs.)
Does anyone think it might make a difference that they"tested" 40 and 50 weight oils, whereas ourHondas use 20 & 30 weights?

i just did my oil with royal purple. As far as the claims of increasing HP i havent noticed anything. But the boost in MPG's is more than noticable. It went up about 20 miles per tank, im back at stock MPG specs
when i got my car serviced i brought my own oil and filter, but yeah the guy was surprised at how the washer just crushed. hence the term crushed metal washer. where does that washer go again? isn't it on the drain plug? anyways, i like the mobil oil. the place i went to showed me what they use (phillips semi synthetic) i believe its trop arctic. anyways, this mobil stuff is way better.
by the way mobil is what honda recommends i know or at least that's what a lot of their bottles say. something to think about.
