Ok so a few friends and I are loading up a car in June after graduating and going to the Wisconsin Dells(about 10 hours away already). Then we want to go to Canada.
For people living in Canada, are there any really cool places to visit that are within 10 or less hours from the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin?
We were thinking Ottowa, Ontario Canadabut thats another 16 hours. If you have a place, does it have a campgrounds for tents? We need this trip as cheap as possible.
If we cannot go to Canada because everythign is so far away, does anyone have any suggestions in the USA? Either within 10 hours from the Dells....or 15-20 hours from Illinois? And cheaper the better
Thanks for any ideas/help!
-EDIT-
Is a passport required to drive across the border, or does that law take effect Jan 1, 2008?

Before anyone can offer suggestions, you should answer two questions:
1. What types of things/places are you interested in seeing - natural wonders, man-made wonders, wilderness, water, what?
2. From where are you travelling 10 hoursto Wisconsin Dells -from the east, from the west, from the south?

1. We really just want to have fun, and just hang out in a big city type situation but some wilderness would be cool as well. We'd like to fish, but I am guessing the licenses for out of country people would be quite high.
2. The Dells are about 10 hours north from where I am located.
Thanks

if you are 18 i can think of plenty of places to go in canada
.
as for the passport situation i dont think you need it to go to Canada, but you need it to get back in. but i am not sure on that. i dont know when the summer solstience is, but that would be cool to see.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, so I am not that familiar with what's available within your travelling criteria, but if you have never seen Niagara Falls, you won't be sorry if you spend the extra time and energy to get there. The Falls is truly a breathtaking sight that, like the Grand Canyon,no photograph or movie can capture.
That area also has a great number of other attactions, as well.

Before you leave I would defenitly call the border station that you are going to cross and ask what they require, I know you don't need a passport yet but they actually appreciate it if you call first....
And if you're 18 then there are a number of places in Canada that you can drink at if you're into that sort of thing...

Thanks for your suggestions guys! As for an idea, Winnepeg Canada is about 8 hours North from the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. So are there any neat places around there? The Niagra Falls would really be amazing to see...hmmm. So many options! The guys im going with dont really drink and neither do I but hey, who knows! So where are these places that are legal to drink when your 18?
I might give the border place a call. Thanks for that advice Sir
As of now, due to the lack of knowledge of attractions in Canada we may either:
A) Go on with the trip anyways and see what we can find
B)Skip the Dells and go to Quebec or Montreal
C) Skip the plans and go to Florida or some other neat place in the USA!
Any other ideas, suggestions or comments are REALLY appreciated
Thanks for the help so far guys, it is really handy!

If you're going to go fishing in all rural areas ofeastern Canadaat this time of year, make damn sure you bring loads of insect repellent, because the mosquitos there are going to beunbelievably bad.(I'll bet rural Wisconsin has a few, too.) In Quebec you'll also have swarms of wonderful black flies biting andsucking the life out of you. If you don't take it, you won't be fishing for more than 10 minutes - unless it's pouring down rain, that is.
Have fun!
