raced a civic and have questions
my accord- 96 lx 2.2 non vtec, aem cai, no name cat back, 5 speed
friends civic- 01 ex 1.7 Vtec , aem cai, spoon racing headers, skunk 2 exhaust, 5 speed
45MPH both in 3rd gear , punch, neck and neck, no one pulled away we were dead even until we both lifted , shouldn't he have pulled away from me easily??

I just looked up the stock specs for both cars. The HP is about equal, but you out-torque him by a large amount. Even with the aftermarket stuff, I would guess it would be a close race. I imagine your car weighs a little bit more than his, but not by much.
hmmm, interesting, thanks briggz, i just assumed he should walk off from me, but thanks for looking that up, we are going to the track friday night, it's only an 1/8th not a 1/4 track, but still should be fun, i'll post pics, vids and timeslips on saturday
i also just looked up those numbers and you are right about same hp , but i definatly out torque him, but my curb weight is 2855, his is 2319 , plus i weigh about 60lbs more than him, so thats about a 600 lb difference, man i can't wait until i get my turbo pieced together!!!
will for sure post pics and vids after the dragstrip, i was thinking he would take me from standstill, but he is not a very experienced driver i might get a holeshot on him, who knows fri will be here soon enough! I can't wait
From 45mph in 3rd, neither of you was in the beefy part of the power curve. Try him again, say from 35 or 40 in 2nd gear, up to maybe 80 in 3rd. I'm thinking if you both punched it when his engine was making more horsepower in a higher rev, your torque advantage may not count as much.
Also, just a heads up when you go to the strip... Make sure your gas tank has as little gas in it as you think you'll need. A full gas tank will weigh about 100 pounds! (Gas weighs 6 lbs per gallon, not sure of your tank, but a full 17 gallon tank is 102 pounds.)
