Plus the messed up streets in NY dont help. It sounds like the shocks and struts and bad when i drive, but its all new Tokico shocks and Eibach lowering springs. pls help!!

Tokico's aren't the greatest .... might be bad ..... I haven't theard of heavy rims causing any real problems. It's most likely either the shocks or something broken in the suspension.

RE: Chrome Rims - Extra Heavy
I doubt it's the wheels themselves that are causing a noise or excacerbating an existing one. With 18s you must be running quite low profile tyres which are likely to have quite stiff sidewalls, and I'd suggest this is more likely to be a problem than the rims themselves, that is assuming your noises aren't coming from somewhere else.
Low profile tyres are going to be harsher than the standard set up, you'll probably just have to learn to live with it. They'll be harsher because they are stiffer, they will bang into bumps and potholes with more of a thump, and transmit more of that thump to the wheel and through the suspension into the chassis. |
RE: Chrome Rims - Extra Heavy
Or, if I read your post more carefully, the new dampers will transmit more road shocks to the chassis than old worn dampers will, especially if they are also stiffer than standard dampers. Stiffer springs won't help either, but the dampers transmit far more shock to the chassis than the springs ever will. Makes you wonder why people call them 'shock absorbers' doesn't it?!
If you want less road shock then you could try lowering the tyre pressures, but steering and handling will most probably suffer. |
RE: Chrome Rims - Extra Heavy
your fuel economy would suffer as well... (if you lowered the tire pressure)

RE: Chrome Rims - Extra Heavy
And it's not safe if you go too low, especially on the hwy. You can get excessive heat build up, then tread separation, not nice!
