I have a 92 Accord 2 door Auto I bought for $500. Although it has 270k miles it runs great and shifts great. I replaced the timing belt and that metal coolant pipe as well as the exahst system, then started on the suspension. First off, everything was bad. I purchased a cheap e-bay kit and a few bushings that didn't even exist. Then got an allignment. It was better however over speed bumps the front would clunck. So I relaced the strut bushings in and out. As well as the tension rod bushings. This solved the clunck. However the cheap ball joints are worn out again from all the stresses of the other issues. I have a mechanic friend who tells me I should use only Honda parts, Although the lower ball joint is cheap at $28. The uppers are $190 each. I can find cheaper on the market but what about quality on these parts. Replacing this stuff is a real pain for me and I'm far from rich. So can anyone aim me toword a cheaper set of these that will last more then a few months?

 

The reason they are so expensive is that it probably comes as a complete control arm, bushing and joint, not just the joint. rockauto.com has just joints for $78 (Spicer) and $115 (ACDelco)

 

I do understand this is the entire arm. As stated above these have been replaced by me before, However with very cheap 30 day warranty parts. Now that the other big issues are solved. I am looking for info on which cheaper, but not lousy parts would be a decent alternative to the Honda dealers $190 complete upper ball joint and control arm with bushings and mounts(kinda long to say that sence this is the only way to get the upper ball joint). lol I do thank you for the two you posted. Have you used the $80-ish one you posted and if so how long did it last?

 

I've never had to replace an upper ball joint, so I wouldn't know. I did have an $18 lower ball joint in and it handle my aggresive driving just fine . I would say the $80 will do just fine for you.

 

you dont have to always use honda parts. I had to change my lower ball joint on the drivers side and the tie rod also. Both i got from the local parts store. Had the cars allignment done and the car is doin great. The local part store should have what you need, ya some of the parts are a little expensive but you gotta "pay to play". When it comes to something as serious as the suspension dont go cheap. I got a cheap ball joint and one day i was leaving work and it broke out of the LCA and the spindal popped out and broke my axle. I was sitting in the middle of the highway. I got lucky and the cops were there and stopped traffic. But long story short..dont get cheap parts when it comes to suspension and everything

oh and see if they come with lifetime warrenty's that way all you gotta do is take it back and get another if it goes bad.

I don't know about the spicer joints. Couldn't seem to find much on them. However I found a number of references to the movotech and Moog parts on that site. The prices were great, So I ordered the Movtech uppers and lower control arms with the Moog Lower ball joints. This combo seams to be well approved for durability as well as those prices were fab. I will recieve all I need for less then honda charges for just the uppers.

 

Haven;t heard of Movtech, but Moog is a very popular OE part manufacturer.
