New to site and this Accord
Hey, new to site and thought id post my question. I just picked up a 92' Accord that has been dropped on KYB shocks, Aerospeed coilovers, and some kind of springs. It is a pretty firm ride. Last night i noticed a terrible sound from up front on the passenger side. Took wheel off and noticed that there was this big rubber grommet deal just hanging from the top of the strut. Took that off. Then noticed there was about a 2" gap between the top of the spring and the top of the spring resting place. I will try to get some pictures. Also, with the car on a jack, im able to just use my hands and can lift up on the rotor and can compress the shock. To me, it seems the shock is blown. I checked the other side, and there is no gap. The spring is all the way up into the tower, and i cannot compress the shock.
Any ideas?
BTW- to put this back stock, or to just add some lowering springs, wouldnt all i have to do is, is take out those coilover sleeves and the spring, and just put in the new spring? Sorry, first time accord lowerer.

It sounds like the upper spring isolator wore out. With the 2" gap, it sounds like something with the sleeves, maybe they just became looses and lowered themselves or the threads are stripped, I'm leaning towards the first one. Pics will help greatly. If you want to just rip out the sleeves and go to springs that's all you'll need. Pretty simple as long and the lower spring perchs weren't modified for the sleeve overs.
upper spring isolator? I just spoke with my friend and he seems to think it has something to do with that rubber bushing that was just hanging on at the top. Im guessing it was on top of the strut rod.
Im guessing if he did modify the strut perch, id just have to get some longer lowered springs to put on there and adjust the coilovers to compensate for the longer spring?

The upper spring isolator is the rubber pad that goes in between the top of the spring and the top spring perch. There is also one on the bottom.
If you were going to remove the coilovers you would be removing all of it. It would look like a stock shocks with stock looking spring, no adjustability. You either have coil/sleeve overs or you don't, there's no in between.
Coilover sleeves come with their own springs, so you have Aerospeed sleeve overs and Aerospeed springs on them. If you wanted different springs, the sleeve overs and the current springs would have to go. Most people will tell you that new springs would be an upgrade to Areospeeds, as they have a pretty bad rep.

If you're going for cheaper coilover sleaves, at least get Zero1, Neuspeed, Skunk2, or Ground Control. Arospeed will always be bad. They even have the top hat perch made of rubber instead of aluminum or steel.

Ouch. Sounds like i need to replace some things. Guess i will just find me some "close to stock" height springs to throw on there and ditch whats on there now. Gotta keep a decent ride for the fam haha. Any suggestions on a spring that maybe has only a .5 drop?
I had Pro-Kit's on my 95 with stock shocks and I loved the ride. Eibach makes very high quality springs and usually they are pretty cheap (I got mine for like $180 from the tire rack). Combined with the KYB shocks the ride should be even better. It may be rougher, but certainly not bouncy.
i would just rip the coilover's off and get the eibach springs. I have the sportline kit on my car w/ stock struts for right now. IMO kyb and the eibach's would make a really good ride. I have a 92 accord also
