Default Replacing coilover springs

Hi everybody. A friend just bought a '95 Accord that has been lowered with coil overs. It's too low and she wants to raise it a few inches. It has an adjustable suspension in the front, but the springs are too short to raise it enough. So I was thinking that I could just replace the springs with stock springs. Do I need any special tools to do it? Any help would be great...pics too. I drive a '92 F150 so I really don't know anything about Hondas.

Lightbulb :) Hello Member

Are those used or new coil-overs..If they were new and she bought them from a dealer then she should have got directions and the tools to do the job right like I would have sold her..
See if she has the tools that are in the picture below..click on the Image 2 x's

The car has used coilovers in it. She bought it from a private seller. I don't think she has the tools in the picture, but we can probably rent them. I looked up a few videos on youtube about it. It doesn't really look that hard except for compressing the new coil spring when I put it on.
Thanks.

If the springs are OK & you just want to raise it, then you need to spin the spring perches up on the shock. Don't need to actually REMOVE the springs.

Get an alignment after adjusting the height.

I did spin the spring perches, but the springs are a few coils too short to raise the car enough.
The problem is similar to the springs in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuGfxFNc-Vk, but in our car the coilover is adjustable.

If they're too short, then you WILL have to take them out. Remove the spring/shock assembly from the car as a unit. Sometimes you can lower the spring perch enough so the spring relaxes & becomes loose. If not, you'll need spring compressors so it doesn't launch itself into your face when it runs out of thread.

Stock springs might not fit, because the outside diameter might be too big. In which case you'll need stock shocks as well as springs. Sometimes you can buy them as a unit already assembled. Otherwise use the spring compressors to install the springs into the shocks.
