98 accord coup - oem tires?
I bought a '98 Accord 2.3l 5 speed coupe and the vehicle came with Bridgestone Turanza tires. I replaced the tires at 101k mile... no kidding! In fact I spoke to a lady who had a '98 with 108k miles on the same Turanza tires. This is crazy that a car could extract that kind of tire milage. My wife drives the car to and from work, mostly freeway.
I replaced the stock tires with Michelin Pilot and after 43k miles they are warn out, may 5k left. They are very noisy and poor tire mileage, so I'd never purchase the Pilot series again, maybe not even Michelin any tire. Although I've noticed my wife is more agressive in her driving than before so maybe this is the cause for poor mileage....???
I'd like to purchase Bridgestone Turanza but don't remember the model tire that came with the '98; it was an H rate tire however, not an S or T. Does anyone on this list know?

The biggest difference in tires as far as life goes is the treadwear rating.... A 300 treadwear is a very soft/sticky tire, good for racing because they hold the road but VERY poor for tire life... As far as what the speed rating is on a stock accord I'm not sure... try pming Wheelbrokera he may know (if he doesn't reply soon)

The oem tires had a treadwear of 400. Generally H rated tires have a 400 treadwear rating. My expierence is V and Z rated tires (rated for higher speed) generally have 250 - 300 treadwear rating, but not always. High speed tires are thought of as performance tires and most people purchasing these tires want sticky rubber and aren't concerned with high mileage. This is generally also true of motorcycle tires. I have a VR rated rear tire on by bike and while it is a performance rated tire, it was designed for touring, giving good mileage. I have about 15k on it now and will probably see 20k which is most unusual. High speed tires also generally have stronger side wall construction to handle the excess speed rating. Actually it's the rubber mix that mostly determines longevity.

Hello Diolap..Welcome to the forums:
Go to the bridgestone web page www.bridgestonetire.com and look up your Turanzas in there, if I remember right they make about 13 different models of tires but only a couple of H rated tires which will have the 400 tread wear rating which gives it about a 80,000 mile rateing.
I also like the Bridgestone/Firestone brands..see picture of Me at Party Cleveland Gran-Prix.
