right now im using 225's and they stick out to the point where it scratches my rear quarter panel things
im not sure what size will perfectlly fit inside without scratching, either 205 or 215
if your car is lowered, what tire width did you use?
im planning to lower my car and i need the right tire width

 

A lot it has to do with your rim. Changing your offset will move the wheel in or out of well.

 

what's offset and how do you change it?

 

Off set is the measure of how far off from the center of the rim the hub mounting surface is. Positive offset means the hub is closer to the outside of the rim, while negative means the hub is closer to the inside of the rim. Most OEM rims have a positive offset. The only way to change it is to get a new rim with a different offset. You can install a spacer to push the entire rim further out from the car, this is almost like making a more positive offset, but there is no way to create a negative without changing the rim or serisouly modifying the suspension.

Unfortunately the only way you'll really be able to fix the rubbing without doing some modification to your body or replacing your wheels or suspension, is to go for lower sidewall height tires. Downside to this is it'll make your ride feel a little rougher and if you got the wheels for visual reasons you'll end up increasing the wheel gap.
