RE: Happy Holidays Hondacare Pricing !!
What company is selling these policies? I know you said it's backed by Honda but is honda backing them as an insurance policy or are these sold directly from Honda? What is the name of the company on the paperwork?

No spammer here!! I work for Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron, Ohio just down the road from Waikem Honda in Massillon, Ohio. Feel free to google hondacareguy and read all the positive feedback from my many happy customers. This product is backed by Honda and says Honda Care on the front of the contract. This is a parts and labor agreement with a $0 deductable. When you purchase Honda Care it goes into Honda's national database. Any time you go to your local Honda dealer for repairs they will see in their computers that you have this coverage. You can call Honda Care at 1.800.999.5901 to verify this. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 1.800.323.2945 or 330.633.6060. I am here Mon-Thurs 9:00am-8:00pm and Saturday 9:00am-6:00pm EST and off Fridays and Sundays.

so, who actually buys these things? i mean, if they didnt make money on it, it wouldnt be sold.
this reminds me of the worst part of buying the car. the finance office. last time the idiot tried to tell me i needed gap insurance when my down payment was 10k. really raises the cred.

I make no comment on the prices you offer. I have done no research on it, therefore I can't comment. Nor are my statements intended to be a blanket for all Honda buyers. If you post commercial sales postings on here (which is essntially what this is), I am going to comment on it, and criticize if I do not agree with it.
I contend that those 30-40 people / month are not very savvy with their money. Even if you sold them at cost, these warranties would only be sold if they were money makers for the underwriters. Those consumers would rather opt for a security blanket. It's their choice. With the convenience of being able to wrap it into a monthly payment, and with spendin all that money already, hey, whats another 500-1000? Combine that with many, but not all, unsavory finance personnel (I do not comment on your practices) trying to guilt you into buying it (Come on, sir, Hondas are reliable cars. We all know that. But even reliable cars still break down)....
Regarding finance managers in general, I have had acceptable experiences, but never a good one. Not one of them would let me leave without telling me about all of their products. This is after I explicity stated that I had no interest in anything they had to offer.
I do research for a living.

Sure a company makes money on it that's the point of selling something. However, not every one that they sell is going to make money. It's just like insurance in the fact that some consumers may never have an accident therefore be paying in all their life while others may have tens of thousands in claims. If you need it it's great if you don't you don't. It's a peace of mind kind of deal.
As for pricing the reason they are less expensive for honda's than other vehicles is because of exactly what you stated. Honda's are reliable. Those sales prices are based on average repair cost numbers so the less repairs you have on a particular vehicle and the fewer things there are to go wrong the cheaper it's going to be. An extended service contract on a new Hummer vs. an accord is HUGE.
Bottom Line: If you're paranoid and want piece of mind and coverage then buy one. If not and you trust your car then don't. It's a rip off unless you need it *L*
