97 accord V4 AC Prob
Hey guys havent been on the forums in a good time , thankfully .
I have a little problem, i went to the mechanic today because my ac was blwing hot and i was wondering what had happened. Apparently the compressor got stuck and it just wont start. The guys there told me i would need a new AC Comp/clutch plus a receiver , and he gave me an estimate of around 650 dollars.
Im trading this car with my dad soon he has a hyundai tiburon 03 , and he needs this car because its a 4 door and the baby car seat does not fit in the back of his, so its a must forr me to get this AC fixed. Any of you have an idea if thats a good price? or also the part numbers it will be , maybe i can get good cheap ones off ebay and reduce the cost. Any help?

what do you mean by stuck? do you mean seized. does your clutch kick in. If you do need a new compressor you can go to car-part.com and buy a used one . those nippondenso compressors are probably the best on the market imo. proof is that they're dirt cheap because hardly anyone needs them. don't shell out 650 till you hear from others on this forum. If the mechanic used the word stuck you should get more info. and post

Is your car a 4 cylinder, or 6 cylinder? It is either an I4, or a V6?
I think that you should do some troubleshooting before going in to replace the compressor.
If you look at the a/c compressor, there is a pulley that is driven by the belt and there is a plate (clutch plate) in front of the pulley.
Start the car. That plate should not spin with the pulley when the car is running and the a/c is turned off. Turn on the a/c. The plate should spin with the pulley. Also both fans should turn on.
Let us know if the compressor engages and what fans are working/not working.
Also, do you have a volt meter?
