Default 96 LX Shifter ****

Does anyone know how to get the shifter **** off of the 96 manual accords?

I am thinking it either pushes down and unscrews, but it only turns soo far, or you have t take that chrome ring off from underneath before it releases...idk for sure

Any info?

UPDATE:

I did try the google idea just now and came across this on another site.

"you have to pull down on the top of the boot where the little chrome piece is. just pull really hard. i found it easer to do from the passenger side (idk why haha) then turn the **** counter clockwise. and remove the 4 screws under the boot."

Don't know if thats it or not, but it's worth an honest try.

Side note:
When chanign my head unit I found that there are 4 white colored tabs like plastic peices under the boot that look like they hold it under the center console.
Not sure if these are the 4 "screws" the kid mentioned but if all else fails, may be better to look at them too before breaking peices off

I'll be sure to try it and post any results ( good or bad ) after the holiday.

I replaced my shift **** on my 96 accord. All i did was pull down the chrome piece and pulled up and unscrewed the stock shift ****. I didn't have to take out any screws. The only thing i can't figure out is how to get the chrome piece off of the boot lol

UPDATE:

So finally I got the shift **** off.

It was so easy once someone told me how to do it from on here.

Just pull down on the chrome ring while twisting off the **** and with a little muscle if comes right off.

Thanks for the info guys.
