I'm interested in an answer to this too. If anyone has painted their rims and knows what all is involved and how long you can expect the paint to last, I'd love to hear about it.

I personally don'y like color or white rims. I think they tend to look plastic-y. But I am sure that if its done right it would look cool to a lot of folks.

I painted my rims using Duplicolor wheel coating and it turned out well. You can't really tell so well from this pic but I put on a lot of clear after the satin silver with a coat of wax they still look good after 2 1/2 years. (I don't think the car was clean for that picture anyway.

I do have another set of aluminum wheels from a 97 that I plan on bead blasting and polishing this spring for my new tires.

I'm in the camp of natural aluminum alloy (cast, forged, and/or machined); chromed and/or painted need not apply for use on my cars.

I think im just going to go ahead and do it. if i don't like it ill just invest in some aftermarket wheels. and if i do decide to keep them, if done properly the paint should last quite a while.

Here's a good video on how to repair and paint damaged wheels:

If you go look at my pic, my black rims with the red lip i didnt myself. I took one wheel at a time and sanded the h*ll out of it. Just make sure its really sanded down. Then i used a couple coats of primer, then i used black wheel paint and coated it with a good amount. After all that dried i hit it with like a half a can of clear gloss coating per tire. Worked good and looks amazing.

Why don't you use plasti-dip? It's cheap, durable, and should only take about 2-3 cans for your wheels. Plus, if you don't like it, it peels off very easily.
