Default help with the BOOT

hey. i just got a new shift ****, but the original boot wont work for it. so i was thinking i could cut the seams of the boot open and take out the plastic rectangular thing that holds the boot up to the original shift **** so i would be left with just the leather, then i could tuck it up into the new shift ****. what do you all think? all input is appriciated!!

If it's anything like the 7th gen... you can actually pop out the console underneath the shifter and the "rectangular thing that holds the boot up" can come out from underneath.

This video around 45 seconds, shows how the 7th gen boot comes off...
