Replacing the speakers would be a real good start.

The OEM radio has a non-defeatable EQ that is uses to get the best sound from those worthless crappy cheap OEM speakers so as long as youre using the stock radio, youll have this EQ curve.

So far I have only upgraded the four main speakers, the tweets in the dash remain stock. It's not mind blowing but there is indeed an improvement inoverall sound and clarity. Next will be a four channel amp, say 50-75 watts per channel. The original EQ settings will remain with the stock head unit but an adjustable amp (gain front & rear, crossover, etc.) will help fine tune things a little bit. I'm in the process of looking at amps and the various hookups now. It seems that one with speaker level inputs would be the way to goto maintain all functions of the stock head and keep the budget intact. It's finding an installer that cares and knows his stuff that's tough.

Id look around at the amps you like, use their dealer locator and then go buy the amp from that shop and have them install it. Chances are theyll be a lot more knowledgable about their product line and they will be much better installers.

Ive just bought MB Quart speakers for my 03 Accord coupe. If you want a good, old school amp, look at the PPI a404 or a404.2. Just great amps and rock solid.
