Default 98 Accord stereo upgrade

Hi, all, I'm new around here.

And I am the proud new owner of a 98 Accord EX, in which I would like to upgrade the stereo. But my needs are modest, I don't really need a system which can jar loose the fillings in my teeth. I am thinking the most cost-effective first step is to replace the OEM speakers. I am partial to Infinitys, I was thinking maybe 6012si front and rear, anyone have an opinion about these?

I am also actually thinking about keeping the OEM head unit, at least for now; my impression is that it can put out a good deal more than what the OEM speakers can handle. Can anyone tell me the power output of this unit? It is one of these double height jobs with the integrated CD player, p/n 39101.

If you are going to change the speakers you might as well change the HU while you are at it. I think I had the same unit I have to go dig and find my stock radio and look at the P/N
I will admit it sounded pretty good but I still replaced it. I just need to change my front and rears(again!!!!)

You'll get more out of a good head unit than out of awesome speakers on a stock HU.

I have a Panasonic HU banging around, which has been in a couple of other vehicles and with which I have been pretty pleased. Except it is only rated 35 X 4. If (I am guessing at this) the OEM unit is 30 x 4, would my aftermarket unit even be that much of an improvement?
