It's not going to happen... the LEDs lighting the fake halos will never be brighter than HID bulbs or as bright as BMW factory halos.

Then why bother asking if your going to turn away a damn good answer?

Unless your going to somehow stuff 10w flux LEDs in there, ain't gonna happen. Real halos actually use the HID bulb to light the halo, not your cheapo aftermarkets.

Lastly, this is the A/V electronics forum... Just because you can see halo's, and they require electricity does not make it a audio/visual electronic...

I have a set of eBay halo rings out of the lamps, there's no way you can pull the led out without damaging the halo.

They don't get brighter... You're already going to be feeding a 5V led with 12V, so they'll die faster than you know it.

Fatty, you're right about BMW halos, they must use a smaller halogen to just illuminate the halos without the headlights on though

Hmm, didn't know the OEM halos could come on without the headlights. Show you how much I like BMWs. Then they must be using some type of quality high wattage LEDs. You can get a lot of light from these LEDs, but they are damn expensive still, but it is a beemer.

EDIT: I could have sworn I had an old stoner explain to me how the halos used fiber optics to light the ring, and use the HID's as a light source. But he was an old stoner...

I'd put money down that they use a filament-type bulb, the halos are yellow.

The halo itself is just molded plastic between the lens and the reflector, see the open designed to let the light out when the HIDs are on?

And yes, they do come on with the HID's off, 2009 M3 and my own photography as proof

Yeah those are definitely halogens because of the brightness and color. You know I can't even remember when I've seen a BMW with OEM halos, down here all the halos I see are aftermarket and rarely on a BMW... If BMWs are like Mercedes only the real top models come with HIDs standard. That M3 prolly does, but I don't think even the 4 series comes with HIDs standard. Just recently did the S class start to come standard with HIDs, and I don't think even the E class comes with them standard still.
