Default hardwire question

Hey I was just wondering:
if i bought a radar detector, cut off the end of the wire with the cigarrette adaptor, and then just connected that to my 12V wire, would that work? Or is there another wire I should connect it to/method I should use? Thanks!

Which 12v wire?
If you mean the cigarette lighter wires, yes you can.
But plugging something else in there that takes alot of power will blow a fuse.
I have my 3 gauges hardwired to the cig. lighter, and can charge a cell phone w/o a problem

Its easy to hardwire it!

make sure that you have the polarity right!!! In my first car I hard wired an ionizer and blew it out because the striped wire was positive, not negative!

I don't know anything about ionizers but you won't hurt the radar detector if the polarity is reversed, it just won't power up.

No safety diode in the ionizer .... I hope that you're right, just in case. I have an Escort, so I just used the $30 kit for mine.

I got a beltronics rx 65 pro and i hardwired it and reversed the polatiry and it didn't power up switched the wires and it works fine just buy a hardwire kit it comes with a fuse so you can save your radar from blowing just cutting the ends is not safe and could result in fire
