How to hardwire a radar detector

i want to run the cord from my radar detector down through my dashto hook into powerfrom a 'hot w/ key on'. probably splice into the wire to theaccessory port. i was wondering if anyone's done something similar.

anyone know what this entails? thanks

easiest thing to do is either splice into an open fuse port or splice into your cigarette lighter with the power cord and just ground the other wire.

do you know anything about the actual dash components... as far as removing/accessing? i am kind of hoping i can go through the center compartment somehow. im currentl searching for diagrams to help out.

i agree with sir nasty

as far as getting into the dach, just look for the screws, and if you cant find them, pry gently. that stuff comes apart in a pretty straight foreward manner.

I tapped mine into a fuse that turned out to be the windows. The detector stays on until I open a door. I have the mute button mounted to the center console near my right knee.

you can usually reach in from behind to at least figure out what wires are going to your cigarette lighter if you want to wire it that way.

there are several male quick disconnect plugs in the fuse box. One is ground, one is ACC +12v, one is ON +12v, and I cant remember what the othe ones are, if anything. use a voltimeter and check whats what, then buy some female quick disconnects and plug it up.

Dan .... what kind of detector? I'd recommend an Escort if you don't have one yet. The hard wire kit cost $30 and let's you mount a remote mute button. See my pics (not sure if it's one that I posted or have to ...... updating pics now)
