Default What is the best radar detector?

I was reading the post about Florida trying to ban radar detectors and I thought about starting this thread.
Does anyone have an opinion of the best radar detector out right now? I want to buy a detector, so I want to get one that is worth my $.

Escort, Bel, and Valentine 1are the big players. Escort owns Bel so their products are similar if not the same in some instances. I have a Bel (don't recall the model #) and I'm very pleased with it. Using the search feature (top of page) yielded this:
http://www.motortrend.com/features/m...ide/index.html

It's a couple of years old but is certainly worth reading.

My cousin has a Valentine 1, and he loves it too. I just cant justify spending that much right now, I would rather spend it on performance for my car, guns, or tattoos lol.

Haha! I'm a gun guy myself! My dad bought me a Springfield Armory 1911 model.45ACP for a graduation gift when I graduated college. All my other friends that have .40's or 9mm's shoot it and are like "This thing is a f***ing HAND CANNON!"
And I'm just like haha...you hit something once with that and it stops. That's why you only need 7 rounds in the clip. You may need to shoot them 2 or 3 times with a nine or a .40. The next gun I want to get will either be a Glock 10mm or possibly a .44 Mag. I don't want to spend anymore than $500 though. I can get 'em cheap because one of my dad's buddies has a federal firearms lisenceso hecanbuyguns wholesale. He has a gun shopwhere he sells guns as a second source of income. He justorders them for me and I pay like $100 less than if I went to a gun store.

I have a Walther P22, a Taurus PT 111 Millenium Pro 9mm, and the Ruger P345 .45 that I bought myself for a "welcome home from Iraq" present to myself lol. I love to shoot the Ruger, but .45 rounds are so spendy. I shoot the .22 a lot, just because its fun and cheap. My next hand gun will probably be a revolver, a shorty .357 mag. My roomie has a .40 Springfield XD (soooo accurate) and a Kimber Warrior 1911 .45 that is just a beautiful gun.

Thanks VTecHef I have also heard good things about Whistler.

To poser_pilot:
Yeah those .45 rounds will cost you. I bought a Ruger 22 auto pistol shortly after I got the .45. The Ruger has a fat bull barrel and is about the same balance and weight as the .45. It's supposed to help you practice using a similar balance/weight with cheap .22 rounds. I believe it is called the 22-45 or 45-22... something like that. Anyways, that thing is so accurate you could shoot the hairs off a gnat's @$$ if your hand was steady enough! Love shooting that one.
Before I decided on the .45 my dad borrowed one of his buddy's Springfield XD .40's and we shot it. The thing jammed up once every 10 rounds! It was a clean gun and I don't know why it was jamming up like that. It seemed like the spring for the slide may have had too much tension on it and it didn't want to pop back enough to eject the empty round and reload another one correctly. It kept jamming a live round halfway intothe chamber once the empty had been ejected. Sheesh....made me kinda nervous if you know what I mean! The guy that owned it said you had to buy top dollar ammo if you wanted it to function right. I decided there was probably something wrong with the gun but I didn't want to risk buying one and have it jamming up on me if I needed it even if I used expensive ammo. I've got Federal hollow points in my .45 in the night stand beside my bed right now. I don't keep one in the chamber though. Not sure if that is a good or a bad idea.
My dad has a Ruger P89 9mm and we have shot more than 1000 rounds through it -from expensive hollow points to the cheapest rounds we could find - and it has never jammed up even once! Ruger makes an excellent gun.
Yeah I bet that Kimber is beautiful! It probably ran him over $1k!
I was looking into the Taurus Triad which is a shorty revolver that will shoot .357, .38, and 9mm. But it seems they may have been discontinued
I did love the way that XD felt in my hand though. Felt like it was supposed to be there. I have been also thinking about buying the new XD .45 that holds 13 rounds in the clip.
Haha we should start a new "guns" thread in the Off Topic section.
