Default Keyless Entry

Just bought a 2000 Accord LX that does not have a keyless entry remote. However, it is wired for electronic locks. If I turn the key and hold it all 4 doors unlock. Is it then wired to recieve a signal from a remote and therefore simply need to purchase a factory fob? Or do I need to purchase a complete aftermarket system to install keyless entry?

depends if the previous owner just lost the keyfob and had keyless entry installed or not. local dealer should be able to let you know what your vehicle was installed with - do you have the original window sticker?

We have a 2000 LX which we bought used with an aftermarket keyless entry. The keyless entry began to malfunction and disabled the Engine Immobilizer, which ended up being a $300 dealer fix. They insisted on removing the aftermarket keyless entry to guarantee the repair. We had a couple of OEM keyless entry fobs from our old 2000 EX and asked the dealer to program them for the LX. They said it cannot be done as the 2000 LX model was not wired for OEM keyless entry from the factory.. An OEM Honda keyless entry kit can be purchased for about $250 + labor.

An aftermarket system would have cost $300 to install new. Next time call a car audio shop and have a new alarm/keyless entry system installed.

A new immobilizer is $60. From Idatalink

I've installed the Honda keyless entry system on a '98 LX. It's an afternoon's work, but it works great. Cost was about $210.

Its not hard to do, but the instructions leave something to be desired.

The instructions in PDF format are significantly bigger than what this board supports. Let me figure out a link to them.

You can try here:
