SO QUESTION.. MY L5 RIGHT..BASICALLY IT DOESNT HIT HIGHER NOTES GOOD RIGHT? BUT IS THAT THE SAME CASE WIT ANY 12" OR JUS THE L5??....
That is because of the square cone. Generally 12" subs have great SQ, only the L5/L7's have this problem. Some subs can't putout as much SPL, like say a 10" W7 but the SQ is just amazing. I'm no expert but I think generally 12"'s in a sealed box have the flattest curve. Meaning their output on the highs and lows is almost equal. Sealed boxes are defiantly better, unless you just want to show off those couple of songs. But if you want every song to hit sealed is the only way to go(except for IB but I have yet to hear or even seen and IB setup). If you want to get better highs out of your L5 try a sealed box, you'll still get good SPL. How much power are you running though? Sealed boxes are less efficient and need more power.

Yeah that amp is junk. How big are the fuses? There is a lot more bass then what you've got now but its expensive. You've got to spend more money on an amp then a sub. All of these minor brands are severely over rated, none putout the power they claim they do. Kicker, JL ect. amps are UNDER rated, meaning they actually give you a little more power than rated. My kicker 750.1 came from the factory tested at 930w. The amp is just as important as the sub.

What do you mean chopping? Your amp may be clipping. Never turns your gains past half way, especially on those cheap amps. Yeah that amp is not very powerful and is going to be prone to clipping. If you just upgrade the amp I think you will be very satisfied, especially if you like the sound now. A sealed box will help you hit those higher notes as well, but if I remember correctly those higher notes require more power than the lower notes, could be totally wrong on that one though. A sealed box definitely requires more power then a ported, with some drivers you have to limit the power in a ported box or the sub will bottom out. My CVXs max power in a ported box is significantly lower than the 750w thermal RMS rating. This may be the case with every sub but I'm just not sure.

ok thanx well i preciate it this thread almost comes to a close with the final question...if its in a sealed box it hits higher notes better right?...well if i threw the L5 in a sealed box and put it on a 1200w kicker or maybe even a 1000w kicker itll hit the high notes better right? and if i leave the amp i have now and throw it in a sealed box will it hit the high notes better?
