Hey, I just bought a 2003 accord 2 door a few months back. I put a kenwood mp3/usb deck in it last month and then last week I decided to replace the front door speakers with pioneer 3 way (30W rms). I didn't want to do components cuz im kinda lazy to run wires for the tweeters and everything, so I just unplugged the stock tweeters and put the 3way speakers in the doors.

Now I'm finding that although these speakers are much clearer and crisper than the stock ones, they have these like loud pitchy highs, like the high frequencies of the vocals, whenever the vocals go high its too loud and hurts my ears, and even if i turn the treble all the way down its only improved a bit. So its like i want to turn the music up more but then the highs get annoying. It wasn't like this with the stock speakers. And I had these same Pioneer speakers on my 1.6 EL before for years and never had this problem.

I'm thinking maybe in these cars you gotta put components for it to sound right? or maybe its cuz the way its installed with the crutchfield adapter it doesn't mount flush to the door, theres small gaps between the speaker and the door. They also have not much bass, compared to the same ones i had on my old car. My rear speakers are not working, I still have to replace them; Could it be because my rear speakers are not working right now so I have to turn it up more to hear the music so then it sounds bad?

Any ideas?

 

wow... lets go through it one question at a time.

1. why are my highs so loud?
you bought way coaxil speakers. it has two stage tweeters in the speakers. The speakers are designed to have loud highs.
you also said you are lazy and didnt feel like running tweeters. I am thinking that means you did not disconect the stock tweeters. this means with the three way speakers you are essentially running 6 tweeters and two mid ranges. This is why the highs are so loud.

2. Not getting much mid bass?
In order to get good mid bass in a vehicle time needs to be spent sealing the door. you need deadner and time. it is very likely that you arent getting as much bass because there are the gaps and you are essentially free airing the woofers.

3. sounded better in my other car?
All cars are different. the same speakers on the same power will sound different in tow different cars.

 

I did unplug the factory tweeters, I did that right after installing the door speakers.

I called crutchfield, which is where i bought them, and I'm exchanging them now for Polk audio 2 way speakers, they recommended them for my issue.
When i install these i'll try to add more foam or whatever to seal it. When I installed the pioneers I put some foam on the p.s. speaker to seal it but I guess I could've done a better job. The d.s I didnt put any and it has gaps for sure, I only thought of making it seal after doing the d.s. speaker.

anyone know if polk audios are good?

 

it depends on the series of polk. the higher end are nice the budget ones are budget speakers. sound deadner is your friend. you can get milla mat and fat mat on ebay fairly cheap. it will make a big difference.
