Default speedometer odometer

A friend has a 99 LX 4cyl, 5dpd manual and his speedo quit the other day. I need to know where the sender is located for the speedo. Is there a way to test it without replacing it? Thanks for any info. any photo would be a big help. We do not have a manual on this one.

Not sure if cruise works but if it does is the sender unit ok?

If speedometer, odometers, and cruise are not working, the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is likely the problem. If cruise is working, the VSS is not the problem. There should be an DTC (problem code) set by a bad VSS. Get the code read to be sure. This is best diagnostic.

Check youtube videos for "honda vss" for some instructional clips.

You can get manual information from autozone for free by joining their site.

VSS should be behind and below the distributor and near the thermostat housing. Removing air intake duct is necessary for access.

good luck
