Question Engine Detail?

I was wondering what is the best way to clean/detail my engine? What products would you recommend to use and what are the procedures involved. Also on my engine, the part where it says "honda" on the top and where the spark plug wires are located, the paint is starting to flake away. Is there anyway I can repaint that part, so it looks better? Thanks guys!

You would be shocked if you ever watched a detailer clean an engine. They simply spray the real dirty areas with some type of degreaser then blast the whole engine clean usually with a pressure washer. got to keep the stream fairly far away and the engine should be blown good and dry afterwards. Personally I've never had an engine detailed, I've heard good and bad things about doing it. I'm not sure how willing anyone would be to stand behind this if the engines starts to act up a week later, just makes me nervous.

Just get a can of degrease-er, spray your entire engine bay down, avoiding the intake. Give it about an hour, then spray it off with a hose(low power), let dry.

the main issue with cleaning an engine was when you had distributor caps, carburators, and other items that weren't sealed and caused issues when the engine was wet. now, most engines are designed such that water spray won't affect them.

i'd keep direct water spray away from air filters, firewall grommets, ignition controllers, spark plugs, fuse boxes, etc.

it is recommended the engine be warm (NOT HOT!!) so the degreaser works more effectively.

i prefer a clean engine - not only does it make working on the thing easier and neater, it allows you to easily identify leaks or other issues.

Yes, cover up electric, fuse boxes, anything that can be fried. I would use Gunks engine degreaser. after that get some goop hand cleaner and work all the small areras by hand. with the rubber you can use a wet wash cloth to clean the dirt off and something like armor all make it shine. I have done this to all my engines and never had a problem. But i take the time to make sure things are covered and seal before starting. I also charge for this for other peopleand they never had a problem.

Used search and found this thread.

I have an 07 accord, and I was hoping to detail my engine. It costs about $30 at my service station, but products will cost me about ~$15 all together, so I'm going to do it myself.

I'm not savvy underneath the hood and need an idea of what to cover up exactly. I have an 07 V6 engine. If needed I can take a picture of my engine, and maybe someone nice can use MS paint and draw little red boxes?

I'll be sure to get that Gunk degreaser and the armor all. Are there any particular brushes?

Thanks in advance
