Default evaporator cleaner odor

Last week my dealer used evaporator core cleaner without my permission. Needless to say I refused to pay for service not needed.($159.00) Unfortunately my car now smells like a public toilet that has just been disinfected. I was assured that the odor would go away in a couple of days. It has not! I changed the cabin air filter and found that the old one was saturated with the odor. The stuff has made my wife ill and gives me a headache on my commute to work. The 2013 car is only two years old and smelled nearly new before the incident. Does anyone have an idea how to rid the AC system of the nasty odor? I'd consider selling the car if I could afford it.

If service was not approved, then Honda should clean the system. However, you could wind up w/ more problems than you currently have (damage to components during evap removal/cleaning). Suggest you first try waiting a few days to see if smell will resolve itself.

good luck

What's the Evaporator system, where's it located, what does it do etc..etc.. Is it a do-it-yourself service if the system ever fails or needs attention? How would one even know??

Evaporator vaporizes the refrigerant to produce cooling. It's in pax side cabin. Advanced DIY to access and repair. Some evaps are practically non-repairable. A shop manual for your vehicle will provide some help, but youtube may be a better source.

good luck

I have seen 2 YouTube videos and one worked for me. The one that didn't work was the operation, the core "disinfection" you mentioned above. The second one utilized Lysol room spray With the engine running and windows and recirculate off spray the air intake vents outside through the cowl until the can is empty. The disinfecting power in the product kills the odar. Until the can is empty may seem like overkill, but believe me it works.
