Question 1998 accord ex engine swap questions

Hey guys new to this forum and i hope ill be here for a while. I got my moms 1998 accord ex for my 16th birthday and love it! Im about to be 17 and in the time that ive had her i got into the import scene. Now i know a ok amount about cars but my stepdad knows a fairly high amount and in this cars years has gathered 315k miles on her but shes running great. However before she goes out i want to get a engine swap and work with my stepdad building her up learning as i go. My stepdad was never into honda and isnt sure all the engine options. I have done a decent amount of research on engines and have found so far that the h22 is the best option. I was wondering what other options are out there what all work it would require like wiring, mounts, what tranny i should use and whatnot. So i guess ill start with the engine decision and go from there. Thanks guys!

If the car is an auto trans, you need to think about swapping that out for a manual.

Also need to check local/state inspection laws - Some states (CA for example) have some laws that are hrad to "get around" when it comes to swaps with something other than what the car came with.

Strange.....looks like our posts switched position

Do they require the car to stay OBD-II? Some, most states require 96 and up to be/stay OBD-II.....some don't. If yours does not that opens up the ideas a ton . In the county I live in they go by "age" more than OBD versions, meanig that over X years old you only have to pass a simple inspection.....heck older than Y you don't even have to get one ? go figure that one.

If you have to stay OBD-II, then pretty much the H and F20 (check HP rating?) are going to be your only options. You'll need the ECU with the engine to get the most out of it. There are plenty of places you can get "mount kits" and "re-wire" kits for almost any type of swap you decide on.

Since you have a manual trans already, there isn't anything "you have to do" in that area unless you want an LSD trans but that can get pricey.
